Excavation is the most efficient option to capture gopher tortoises for relocation

By incrementally Excavating the burrows using a backhoe & hand shovel the tortoises are safely captured for relocation the same day, significantly reducing the capture time over bucket trapping. Excavation removes all doubt about missing the burrows occupant/s. Additionally excavation is the only method that works during narrow weather windows, allowing us to complete relocations during the winter months with only three above 50 degree days needed. Bucket trapping is not possible during these extreme conditions.

Excavation requires a considerable level of skill and should only be preformed by experienced professionals.
